Support Groups

CCCSA has different social support and interest classes. These groups have actively encouraged individuals to engage and participate in different social activities. These social support groups include:

  • Mandarin Group
  • Women’s Interest Group
  • Social Knot Youth Group
  • New Immigrant Circle

Mandarin Group

CCCSA’s mandarin group has had a long history. The original purpose of the group is to offer the Mandarin speaking community members an open platform for them to establish friendship with one another. Participants of the Mandarin group will have a chance to meet different people through the informal discussions and exchange of experiences in Canada. Through these activities, participants will be able to expand their social circles.

Mandarin Group meets every Friday from 9:30pm to 11:00pm at CCCSA. We welcome everyone to join and be part of the family.

Women’s Interest Group

CCCSA’s Women’s Interest Group is an interest class specifically opened for women. Most of the participants in the interest class are either retired or housewives who enjoy spending social time with others. Activities in the Women’s Interest Group include crafting, spinning and weaving, as well as general discussions of a variety of topics.

Women’s Interest Group meets every Tuesdays from 9:30am to 11:00am at CCCSA. Should you are interested in making new friends; please consider to join this wonderful group!

Social Knot

In 2011, CCCSA began a young adults committee called “Social Knot” and this group went through leadership training and organized events throughout the year.  There were many reasons for the creation of this committee; to build leadership and other skills in young adults necessary to step into the workforce, to recruit immigrant youths and act as a bridge to mainstream society, to encourage volunteerism and community development in young adults.  Some projects included organizing a fundraising sale, designing T-shirts for CCCSA and also planning the annual spring cleanup in Chinatown. The committee renews itself at the fall of each year.  Social Knot is now recruiting new members. Should you are interested in joining us to serve the community better, please contact us at (403)265-8446.

New Immigrant Circle

The purpose of new immigrant circle is to help Chinese new immigrant families to get familiarized with Canadian life and to integrate into Canadian main stream society. Through organizing social activities such as bringing these new immigrants to the Hitmen Hockey Game, Calgary Stampeders Football Game, Telus World of Science, Family Financing Seminar, Tax Return DIY, Calgary Central Library Tour, Jane’s Walk etc. We also partnered with OnFoot Club to plan hiking trips in the summer.  These activities help to build networks among immigrants, new or old; they know new friends and enjoy one another’s company. All of these activities have shown the successes of large group turnout and bridging social networks among these immigrants and with the Canadian society. The New Immigrant Circle activities received many compliments from the participants saying that these activities provided opportunities for them to learn Canadian life and recreation.
